It’s not where you are,
It’s where you’re at.
— Buzz Montsinger

The story behind MOBUZZA Music begins with Lawson “Buzz”  Montsinger, a Richmond VA native who took up sax at the age of 11, began playing in bands (by night) at age 15 and playing football (by day) at JR Tucker Highschool and then University of Richmond. Montsinger was drafted to the Dallas Cowboys in the early 70’s where he enjoyed a two-year stint as an NFL linebacker before suffering an injury that would, ultimately return him home.  He spent the majority of his life, post NFL, as a professional tenor sax player, touring the country and the world with some of the best R&B/Soul musicians around. His life’s been rich in music, creativity, family, friends and a deep spiritual faith.

Tragically, in 2006, at the age of 58, he took a fall at a friend’s house and suffered a spinal cord injury that resulted in complete paralysis from the neck down. After spending two months in the Spinal Cord Injury unit at MCV/VCU Hospitals and undergoing surgery and extensive physical rehabilitation there, he was discharged from the hospital with only partial, limited return use of his upper body and legs.

Without full usage of his hands, playing the tenor sax became more than a challenge and Montsinger decided to immerse himself into the role of producer, gathering a group of his musician friends to record an album in 2009 titled “The Richmond Heart & Soul Revue”. On this compilation album, 12 tracks featured 12 different locally renowned vocalists performing various cover songs and originals-- some of which would be their last recorded works, as many have since passed away.

Ten years later, and once again inspired to begin making original “message” music, MOBUZZA Music was born. This time around, Montsinger teamed up with his daughter, a Richmond-based singer/songwriter, to begin writing songs together for the first time. The lyrics that began flooding into Montsinger’s mind were inspired by all of his life experiences, and were positive, uplifting, and message-filled— meant to inspire and help others realize their inner potential to be happy, fulfilled human beings, no matter what their limitations may be. For Montsinger, with ongoing, grueling physical therapy sessions still very much a part of his weekly effort to try and regain movement back, he speaks from a long, hard road of first hand experience and has chosen a “never give up” attitude the whole way through.

Armed with meaningful, message-laden lyrics and catchy musical hooks, the Father/Daughter songwriting team shares each song with a select group of talented musician friends— with the idea of having each single feature a different “band of musicians”— and begin the official recording process in the studio with producer, Steve Van Dam.

The first track to be released in June 2019, titled “Where You’re At” features an A-list of Virginia-based musicians on the credits including former “Richmond Heart & Soul” musicians, Steve Bassett on backing Vocals and Keys, Randy Moss on Guitar, and Buzz Montsinger himself, on Tenor Sax— just to name a few. The idea behind the song is that, “it’s not where you are or have been (on the outside) physically, that matters— it’s where you’re at (on the inside) in your heart & soul, presently, that will determine your happiness in life.

Montsinger Entertainment will promote MOBUZZA Music worldwide across all digital distribution avenues and will be aligning with charitable organizations that support Spinal Cord Injury survivors and Disabled Musicians & Artists. M.E. will be producing special events throughout the year to promote this mission and cause and will be looking to find placement for the music in Movie, Television and Online Media Soundtracks.
